Literature displays to Reduce Waste and Generate Revenue in your Department

Find out about LifeScience.TV, the exciting new news and information channel that allows you to add your own content!

NewsStands are literature display stands located in life science and chemistry research departments. Companies that sell products and services to those departments pay to display their marketing literature on the stands, or use the new NewsMail and NewsScreen services, as an alternative to sending literature by mail.

Reduce unwanted direct mail

Departments that have had NewsStands for some time typically report reductions of up to 50% in the amount of unwanted direct mail (catalogues, newsletters, brochures and other items of marketing mail). We would expect to see further reductions as more suppliers use the NewsStand service. This has the benefit of reducing your cost (staff time, landfill costs) to dispose of the unwanted materials.

Generate an income for your department

Each NewsStand will generate an income of £250 - £750 per year (depending on usage); larger departments may warrant more than one NewsStand, with a proportionate increase in income.

The NewsStand is not designed to replace the mini-exhibitions that many companies hold, so the NewsStand will not reduce your Department’s income from this source.

Take up very little space and look smart

NewsStands are either free-standing, such as those illustrated (above right), or wall-mounted (see examples at Imperial College) with space for 6 different A4 leaflets or brochures together with an optional catalogue display (below right). They occupy minimal floor or wall space and are usually located in a common room, cafeteria, reception area or next to the lift(s).

Take very little staff time to look after

Companies display their literature for a 2 week period. We take care of booking spaces and coordinating the delivery of literature so that, every 2 weeks, you receive a package of literature ready to put out on the NewsStand. Display periods can be extended to 3 or 4 weeks at holiday times.

All you need is for someone to spend, at most, 10 minutes every 2 weeks changing the literature in the NewsStand and to circulate an internal email in the Department (we provide the text) listing the content for that period.

What do our existing venues think about NewsStands?

All of our existing venues are very happy with their NewsStand and everyone who who is responsible for the NewsStand in their department agrees that they take very little looking after, help to reduce unwanted mail and generate a useful income for the department.

Catalogue Distribution

More companies are using sales reps or mini-exhibitions to distribute their catalogues, but we still hear horror stories of tens, even hundreds of catalogues arriving when only a few are needed.

NewsStand catalogue displays overcome this problem by providing a reasonable number or catalogues for interested staff to take. The catalogue displays can be located next to the main NewsStand (like the example, right) or elsewhere - outside Stores is popular (see an example at the University of Warwick).

If you prefer to receive only a fixed number of catalogues (e.g. 2 central copies, one per PI group, etc.), we can also arrange this.

Whichever method you choose, the company will not mail its catalogues to your department and you receive a fee per distribution.
